Garuda Indonesia previously operated a fleet of three Boeing 747-400 aircraft, primarily for Hajj pilgrimage flights and high-density short-haul routes. These aircraft, which were phased out of service in 2017 as part of the airline's fleet renewal program, had a capacity of 428 seats (42 business and 386 economy). The last 747-400 was retired in a ceremony on October 9, 2017, after its final flight on October 6, carrying Hajj pilgrims from Medina to Makassar, followed by a ferry flight to Jakarta.
