CORGI (CD54321065) - 1126 Ecurie Ecosse Racing Car Transporter
Ecurie Ecosse was a motor racing team from Edinburgh, Scotland. The team was founded in November 1951 by Edinburgh businessman and racing driver David Murray and mechanic Wilkie Wilkinson. Its most notable achievement was winning the 1956 and the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Originally introduced into the Corgi range in October 1961, Corgi 1126, the Ecurie Ecosse Racing Car Transporter, is one of the most desirable die-cast models of its era. Featuring two decks, allowing three racing cars to be transported, the model also features a workshop, complete with benches and a miniature vice – all visible via a sliding door.
Although more expensive than a regular Corgi Toy, this impressive ‘Corgi Major’ was larger and worth every penny! It was available in two metallic colours – in deep blue (as per this Corgi Model Club edition and faithful to the actual vehicle) and a paler blue. Both variants were fitted with self-centring steering. Corgi 1126 was also available in Gift Set 16, complete with three Corgi racing cars. Production of ceased in 1965 after sales of around 145,000 – with the gift set selling an additional 90,000.
