From 18th July – 3rd September the highly anticipated Making Tracks 2 will journey through Chester Cathedral. Pete Waterman OBE and the Railnuts modelling group have created a brand-new ‘OO’ gauge layout that occupies 64ft x 12ft, but this time models a completely new stretch of the West Coast Main Line from Making Tracks 1.
Last summer was a challenging time for live events and bringing Making Tracks 1 to Chester Cathedral was a real coup for the city and its visitors. Pete Waterman commented: “Making Tracks 1 was so successful and broke all records at the Cathedral, so we asked the Dean if we could build another one.”
Family run independent business Chester Model Centre (that’s us!) is delighted to once again sponsor this two month event. Owner Paul Boyland has put more than his company name to this great event as he’s been sourcing materials, making trees and building scenery alongside Pete Waterman to ensure this year’s display is top notch.
“Of course I want to promote our shop, but I also want to encourage people to take up a hobby. I see the joy hobbies bring to individuals, families and groups of friends. Some of my customers have been building model trains for 70+ years while others have only just begun. There’s no age limit to fun.”

The Making Tracks 2 team has also rewired the layout with new modules from Megapoints Controllers allowing operators and the public to continuously view the trains as they move around the layout. Rolling stock is also being prepared for the show including long container trains, Pendolinos, parcels trains and more.
