The production of Ford Granada began in 1972 at Ford's Cologne factory. However, during the early days, the lower models in the range were sold under the Ford Consul name due to a lawsuit in Britain by the Granada Group. They tried to block Ford from registering the name Granada on their new large executive car. Despite the attempt, the British conglomerate failed, and Ford was able to register the name Granada from 1975 onwards.
As a high-end car, the Granada was well-suited for use by the police, as a fleet car, and as a taxi. The body styles varied from a 2/4 door saloon, a 5-door estate, and a 2-door coupe. The Mark I was produced in Dagenham, Essex, between 1972 and 1976 when manufacturing was moved back to Cologne. It stopped production completely in 1977 when it was superseded by a second-generation Granada.
Our Mk I Granada is registered NHK 292M from 1973. It comes in an authentic bright green with a black roof and a beige interior on a black chassis. The wheels are finished in black and silver. The radiator grille is also black with silver trim, and other details include silver window surrounds, door handles, rear panel trim, and bumpers. Finally, the Ford lettering is finely reproduced in silver out of black above the rear number plate, adding a touch of realism.
