Between June 1940 and December 1942, Malta became one of the most bombed places on Earth. The battle for this tiny island proved to be one of the most decisive turning points of World War II. The RAF\'s successes improved further with the arrival of Air Vice Marshall Keith Park in July. By establishing his Forward Interception Plan, he virtually eliminated further Axis daylight bombing over the island. One of the RAF\'s great fighter commanders, Park became an ace flying Bristol F2B fighters during World War 1. On becoming AOC Malta in 1942 he acquired his own aircraft, OK-2, believed to be coded Z3574. Park regularly flew this aricraft of visits to beleaguered airfields, most publicly at the opening of Krendi on 10th November 1942 when he performed a memorable beat-up of the airfield.
